Mackay Airport appoints new General Manager

North Queensland Airport Corporation has announced the appointment of Garry Porter to the position of General Manager of Mackay Airport.  He succeeds Rob Porter who finished in the role earlier this year.

Garry Porter has had eighteen years in the aviation, transport and tourism sectors in senior executive positions.   Over the last four years he has worked as Head of Operations at Darwin International Airport.

During his time in Darwin International Airport he worked collaboratively with airlines to increase services to remote locations and significantly contributed to the region’s growth.

Mr Porter is extremely familiar with regional airports having been responsible for Northwest Airports with Jetstar regional airports before becoming Head of Operations.

Announcing the appointment of Mr Porter, Chief Executive Officer of North Queensland Airports Norris Carter said “I’m confident that Garry has the skillset, experience and energy required to take Mackay Airport to the next level and to capitalise on the opportunities the Mackay region offers.”

“Garry brings with him comprehensive experience in aviation and has a real understanding of working in a regional airport. He is keen to hit the ground running, is a strong advocate for regional growth and increasing activity at the airport to underpin the strong economic growth Mackay is experiencing.”

“During his time in Darwin he has been involved in a number of initiatives and successfully drove a number of commercial and operational strategic projects’’.

Garry says he is looking forward to using his experience in regional airports in his new role. “I am excited to be joining the Mackay Airport team at this important point in its history.  There are great plans for the future and I am looking forward to working with the team, to bring these to fruition.”

Garry Porter will commence on April 8.  In the meantime Adrian Miles, will continue in the role of Acting General Manager until Garry commences.
