The Mackay Airport Land Use Plan - September 2022 has been prepared to satisfy the requirements of the Airport Assets (Restructuring and Disposal) Act 2008. This document was approved by the Honourable Steven Miles MP, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure, Local Government and Planning on 24 March 2023.

A $900 million redevelopment of Mackay Airport proposed over the next 20 years will underpin the airport land holdings as Central Queensland’s Multimodal Integrated Transport Hub, providing the core infrastructure to sustain its vital role in regional development as well as capitalise on the current growth and economic opportunities of Central Queensland’s tourism, commerce, agricultural and resource sectors.

The redevelopment of Mackay Airport will involve the creation of an Aviation enterprise precinct that will provide for freight, logistics and distribution facilities. A Commercial enterprise precinct will be created to attract national commercial operators for diversified non-aeronautical development to realise the potential of this prominent arterial street frontage. The Terminal business zone will be redeveloped to provide for an extension to the existing terminal building and also provide opportunities for hotel accommodation, bus transit centre, offices, ancillary aviation services, health care facilities, vocational education and training.
