Popular Event Back with a Bang

Organisers behind one of Mackay’s favourite community events expect a record turnout this year, as its major sponsor pledges support for a further three years.

Mackay Airport recently extended its naming rights sponsorship of the Mackay Airport Twilight City Run with a freshly inked agreement confirming the partnership through to and including 2025.

Scheduled to be held on Friday 3 March, the annual Mackay Airport Twilight City Run, which kicks off the BMA Mackay Marina Run, is a popular and inclusive event that sees hundreds of runners, walkers and families take to the street for an evening of fun and fitness.

Mackay Airport Head of Operations Adrian Miles said: “We have been the naming rights sponsor of this popular event since 2018 and it is with great pleasure that we have extended this partnership for a further three years.”

“It is important to us to support events like this, which bring our community together and promote physical health and social engagement,” he said.

“This event is also an attractive drawcard for visitors. The commencement of Bonza’s new direct services will mean we have never been better connected to our surrounding regional hubs.”

“There’s now even more reason for holidaymakers to visit, and events such as the Mackay Airport Twilight City Run provide an excellent incentive for extended travel in our region.”

The Mackay Airport Twilight City Run will be held on the same night as the Mackay Regional Council City Heart Friday activation, which offers activities and late-night shopping. Visitors staying in the city will be encouraged to participate in the run during their stay.

The combination of the Mackay Airport Twilight City Run and City Heart Friday is expected to stimulate an influx of foot traffic in the city, benefitting local businesses and restaurants.

Mackay Marina Run Event Director Tim Magoffin said the 2023 Mackay Airport Twilight City Run was tipped to be the best yet.

“We are expecting this year’s run to be the biggest so far, with at least 800 participants and more corporate team participation than ever before,” he said.

“In 2023, the BMA Mackay Marina Run will aim to have raised more than $500,000 for the Leukaemia Foundation. The Mackay Airport Twilight City Run helps to raise awareness of the charity and will be instrumental in us reaching our target.”

A new BMA Mackay Marina Run website has just launched with details about this year’s events, including the Mackay Airport Twilight City Run.

Participants who register for the Mackay Airport Twilight City Run via the website (mackaymarinarun.com) will go in the draw to win a $1,000 Mackay Airport Travel Voucher.
