Here are a few tips to make your departure at Mackay Airport easy.



Check In

You can find the check-in counters and self-serve check-in kiosks just inside the southern end of the terminal building. Or save time and check-in online up to 48 hours before you depart.

Make sure you’re checked in at least one hour prior to your scheduled departure.



ID Requirements

All passengers, including children and infants travelling with an adult, will need to provide valid identification. The following forms of current (not expired) photo identification can be used:

  • Driver’s license
  • Company issued identification
  • Student identification cards, and
  • Passport




Security is a top priority at Mackay Airport. Mackay Airport has an extensive network of closed circuit television cameras which operate 24-hours a day. The Airport works closely with all government regulators relating to aviation security. All passengers departing from Mackay Airport must proceed through pre-boarding security screening, performed to government and regulation standards using x-ray machines, walk-through metal detectors and hand-held detectors.

Security staff also use explosive trace detection (ETD) systems at the passenger screening point to randomly screen passengers and carry-on goods. These tips will keep the security screening process running smoothly:

  • Remove footwear if asked or if you know it contains metal parts.
  • Avoid carrying or wearing metal items that may trigger metal detector alarms (e.g. belts, large buttons, body piercings and steel toe/capped shoes)
  • All carry-on items must be placed in a tray for screening. Please place jackets, purses and carry-on bags in trays provided before arriving at the front of the screening line
  • Ensure all cameras, laptops, and other devices are out of your luggage and ready to be screened.
